Using a sharp razor knife, box cutter, etc. cut the old FO rod in half where you see the notch in the middle of the blade on each side of the FO rod. Don't saw, push straight down and it will snap in two. Remove the sight from the barrel or the slide from the frame to make the following easier to handle
Remove both halves of the old FO (save them to refer to later) and insert the new FO into the hole in the front end of the sight blade. Push it through until it comes out the rear end of the blade. Leave about 1/16” sticking out of the rear of the blade.
Using a long butane lighter, like you’d use to light a grill, bring the flame close to the end of the FO rod without touching the flame to the rod. Heat the rod until the end enlarges about the size that the original FO rod was and as quick as you get there, pull the rod from the front end, bringing the enlarged end into the counter bore in the rear end of the blade.
This heating process should only take a few seconds (although I’ve never timed it with a stopwatch) and you only want to heat it long enough to enlarge the end. Do not keep heating it or you’ll ruin the end and have to start over.
Put the sight back in the barrel and aim the gun in a safe direction to see if the new end of the FO rod looks round and uniform. If it looks misshapen or wrinkly, push it to the rear, snip of the end and repeat the process, you got it too hot for too long. Square jaw toe nail cutters work great.
Once the end of the FP rod is uniform and round, hold the rod so you are pushing it forward and snip off the excess material flush with the front end of the sight blade. Heat the front end of the rod like you did the rear, to lock it in place. Retighten the set screw on the Snake Sight with a tiny drop of blue Loctite.
I recommend that you do not use super glue to hold in the rod. You’ll ruin the sight for future rod replacements.
